History of Chandubi Lake

Chandubi Lake is said to have mesmerised a British Officer who came to witness the sunset. This is believed to be the point where the name of the lake originated. Chandubi translates to the setting of the sun. Many other versions are speaking about the origin of the lake’s name, but this is deemed the most appropriate. Another version claims that the legendary merchant Chanda Sadagar used this beautiful lake as a transit point for his business. The lake grew popular because of the merchant and eventually came to be associated with his name. Chandubi Lake is believed to have originated on June 12, 1897, as a consequence of a catastrophic earthquake. The forest is said to have gone down and become the lake.
