MaharanaUdai Singh laid the foundation stones of Udaipur as early as 1557 AD. With the magnificent Aravalli mountain range acting as a natural barrier, the city remained out of reach to the fiercest warriors including the Mughal armies. It remained the capital of Mewar until 1947, when Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan.The city of Udaipur is famous for its calm surrounds, pictorial lakes and shimmering palaces. The city is also called ‘Venice of the East’ because of its beautiful lakes.The city has a white aura, foras pink is to Jaipur, white is to Udaipur.
