Overview

The estate on which WelcomHeritage Woodville Palace is nestled, has a history dating to 1865 when Sir William Mansfield, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Army, became the first resident of this charming estate. The palace was reconstructed in 1938 by Rana of Jubbal, who brought in hundreds of expert artisans from far and wide to ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship. Raj Kumar Uday Singh of Jubbal, his grandson, opened the palace as a heritage hotel in 1977.WelcomHeritage Woodville Palace is located in four acres of greenery and yet it is only a kilometer from the bustling mall. Today, the palace is one of the finest places to stay in Shimla. A special attraction of the palace is “The Hollywood Bar 1930s” which has a galaxy of signed photographs of film stars like Clark Gable, Laurel and Hardy, Katherine Hepburn etc. Furthermore, the Palace has a Tiger Lounge with a collection of photographs signed by Indian and European royalty. Another feature is the garden restaurant inaugurated by superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The palace has multi level rose gardens and plush green lawns. It is a gateway to other exquisite hill stations of Kufri and Chail.

A multi cuisine restaurant, The House of the Rising Sun was inaugurated by none other than Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan. The architecture of the restaurant is truly appealing. You can see the bamboos and deodars through the glass structure of the restaurant. With the nature around you and scrumptious food on your table, a perfect evening awaits you here. The Art Deco ethos of the Woodville Palace Hotel permeates in this dining hall and even as one sits down to enjoy the tasteful Himachali cuisine, the British era of the 1930’s is re-captured so tastefully that one does not know which to give attention to: the scrumptious food or the elegant décor.
