A part of the palace is managed by Taj Hotels. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owner Gaj Singh. The palace has 347 rooms and is the principal residence of the former Jodhpur royal family. A part of the palace ia a museum. Ground for the foundations of the building was broken on 18 November 1929 by Maharaja Umaid Singh and the construction work was completed in 1943. MAHARAJA SUITE - The Maharaja Suite is adorned with exotic Stefan Norblin murals, flaming chrome torches, plush Ruhlmann faux leopard-skin sofas and original artefacts. Designed in earthy tones, with a mirrored bar, this suite is a visual treat.

MAHARANI SUITE - Originally designed for Maharani Badan Kanwan, the Maharani Suite is set in pinks, blacks, chrome and mirrors, and dominated by a mural of the Goddess Kali. It has a private terrace with a spectacular view of the palace gardens and of Mehrangarh Fort. Fit for a queen.
